Unit 2 Projects

Animal sculpture:
Elephant with popping glaze.
Planing: found elephant sculpture on pinterest to ref.
Des. Of Construction:I carved the elephant, then the bottom, then I carved swirls in it, fired it and put a popping glaze in it!
Reflection: One think Icould have done better was time, and I didn't glaze it fully the first time. I also could have done the body and ears more structural and smooth. I did like the design on the back aswell.
Pinch pots: Planning: we watched the videos in class and practiced a few times
Process: It was hard to get right away. After a little it was pretty easier to know how much you have to pull your thumbs up/ out of the clay. It was still very ridicule to Gage how much pressure you should put.
Reflection: I would have liked to get mine smoother. I had to restart because it would stretch out too far so I would like to get better at that.
Pinch pot made into something:
Planning: I knew I wanted to make a heart cup so I made a pinch pot into a heart.
Process : I made a pinch pot into a heart then underglazed pink hearts on the sides and bottom.
Reflection: For some reason I didn't glaze this so If I were to re-do it I would def glaze it. I also dont love the underglaze and I think I could have made it alot better.

Pinch Pot with Lid: Planning: My plan was to make a teapot that looked like a dead sea urchin shell (Reference photo)
construction process:I made 2 pinch pots and stuck them together and made a spout and handle and carved the design. I also scored and put on little dots/bumps.
Reflection: This is definitely not  my  favorite piece by far, I think I could have done many things better and more efficient. It took me so long to do the design and glaze it, I also hate the color, i should have done a light sea -foam green but instead I did a grey-dark green/blue. My biggest mess up is the lid, the embellishment on the top broke off when I fired it and I didn´t have time to fix it.

Relief tile: planning: My only plan for this was that I knew I wanted to make a jellyfish.  I didn't have much time to do this project so I went with a simple small pendant with a jellyfish and a few other little designs.

Construction: This was a fairly easy project to do. I just rolled and cut out a small slab rectangle of clay, then shaped the little pieces to make the jellyfish. After that I slipped and scored them on and put a hole in the top.

Reflection: My 2 main flaws about this piece is one, how small it is and, two I didn't underglaze or glaze this piece. The little pendant idea was cool but Would have been cooler as a big detailed relief tile. I think I shaped the jellyfish  very well but I could have didn't need to job and smooth it out more.

Slab slump mold

Historical inspired piece:

Planning: My plan was to make a alter, inspired by one in my Gah-Gah( G-mas) house and the reference photo that you can put candles and things . I also put a back part to grow plants out of!

Construction: I rolled out a slab and cut the pieces out then scored and slipped and but the back on. Then I under glazed the flowers on and glazed the rest.

Reflection: If I were to re-do it I would definitely make it alot smoother. I would have better constructed the base because it kind out tilts forward. I also did the under glazed hurriedly, I could have spent alot more time and put a few more layer.
